The Tawheed of Allah s.w.t and Polytheism

Allah SWT creates human beings to worship Him, and to do that, Allah also provides human beings with the required provisions and sustenance.  Allah SWT says, “And I have created jinn and men only to worship Me. I want no sustenance from them, nor do I want them to feed Me. Surely, it is Allah, Who is the Provider, The Powerful.” - Az-Zariyat: 56-58

From the following statement, we know that in the beginning, all human beings were steadfast upon the true Tawheed of Allah (belief in the Oneness of Allah) before being tricked by the treacherous Shaytan into the practice of ascribing partners to Allah SWT - “The Messenger of Allah said: Allah said: “I created all my servants upon the true Religion (Tawheed). Then the devils came to them and led them astray from their true Religion. They made unlawful to people that which I had made lawful for them, and they commanded them to associate in worship with Me, that which I had sent down no authority.

And from the following verse, we know that the Tawheed of Allah is an innate characteristic that is found in every human being. The practice of ascribing partners to Allaah SWT or polytheism, on the other hand, is purely intrusive. Allah says: “And remain steadfast on the religion of Hanifan (Islamic Monotheism), Allah's Fitra with which He has created mankind. No change let there be in Khalq-illah (i.e. the religion of Allah), that is the straight religion.” - Ar-Rum: 30

Allaah’s Fitra is the instinct that is inborn in every human. This innate instinct recognizes the existence of the True Lord. Allaah’s Fitra leads every human being to the Belief in the Existence of Allah SWT. And the Prophet SAW said: “Every infant is born with Fitra but it is his parents who make him a Jew, or a Christian or a Magian.”

Therefore, in conclusion, the Tawheed of Allaah is man’s innate belief. In fact, it is the Tawheed of Allah that was steadfastly upheld by Adam, and also by those who came after him for many centuries. Allah says: “Mankind were one community, then Allah sent the Prophets as bearers of good tidings and as warners.” – Al-Baqara: 213
